Creative Workshops in Rotterdam: Where to Go in 2026

Rotterdam has quietly built one of the better workshop scenes in the Netherlands. Not the polished, touristy kind — the sort where you spend two hours in a room in Delfshaven or Kralingen learning to tuft a rug, throw a pot, or cook something you have only ever ordered.

This is a guide to creative workshops in Rotterdam: what they cost, what to expect, and where to go depending on what you actually want out of an evening. We are the biggest creative workshop company in the Netherlands, and we have included the other places that do it well alongside us.

What a workshop in Rotterdam costs

Most creative workshops in Rotterdam sit between €35 and €80 for two to three hours, with materials included. Craft workshops that use a lot of material — tufting, ceramics, woodworking — sit at the higher end. Painting and drawing sessions are usually cheaper. Food workshops vary most, because you are also paying for what you eat.

Almost everything is bookable online and most sessions run in the evening or at the weekend. Small rooms mean places genuinely do sell out, usually a few days ahead rather than weeks.

Art and painting workshops in Rotterdam

ARTparty

The biggest creative workshop company in the Netherlands — six years, three cities, and our own 70-person studio in Amsterdam. In Rotterdam we run at Foodhallen Rotterdam on the Wilhelminakade: two hours, in English, with a welcome drink and all materials included.

The programme rotates — air clay sculpting, sculptural texture art, and the 3D moon lamp workshop, where you build a textured sphere with a light inside it. Beginners are the norm rather than the exception, and for private groups we bring the whole workshop to you.

Rembrandt van Wine Rotterdam

The Rotterdam branch of a sip-and-paint chain. They run Paint in the Dark here, which is exactly what it sounds like — painting under UV light. Good for a group that wants something with a gimmick.

Anastasia K Art Studio

A small studio on the Lijnbaan with a strong local reputation. Worth looking at if you want something quieter and more like a proper art lesson than an event.

Watmatjenou

Tufting workshops on the Lambertusstraat — you make a rug or wall hanging with a tufting gun. It is loud, physical and genuinely satisfying, and it has become one of the most-booked craft workshops in the city.

Buurman Rotterdam

Woodworking, run out of a large workshop built around reused materials. Sessions range from an evening making something small to longer courses. The most hands-on option on this list.

De Cultuurschool

A cultural centre on the Overblaak running a rotating programme across several disciplines. Useful when you want variety rather than one specific craft.

A cooking studio in Delfshaven with a long-running programme and a strong local following. The default choice for a group that wants to eat what it makes.

Mushroom growing, taught in a former swimming pool. Genuinely Rotterdam, and unlike anything else on this list.

Workshops for company outings and groups

Most of the studios above take private bookings, and this is where the real difference between them shows up. Some can host fifteen people, a few can host fifty or more. If you are organising a bedrijfsuitje or a team afternoon, ask three questions before you book: the maximum group size, whether the room is exclusively yours, and whether food and drink can be added.

For larger groups it is often easier to bring the workshop to your office than to find a room in the city that fits everyone. We have run sessions for groups of well over fifty that way.

How to choose a workshop in Rotterdam

• A first date: something with a result you can hold at the end. Painting, clay or tufting.

• A group of friends: craft workshops work better than food ones, because you can talk while your hands are busy.

• A birthday or hen party: book privately so the room is yours, and check the maximum group size early.

• On your own: pick a drop-in session rather than a multi-week course, and check which language it is held in.

• A company outing: ask whether they can come to you — for anything over twenty people it is usually simpler.

Do you need any experience?

For almost everything on this list, no. Creative workshops in Rotterdam are built around people who have never done the thing before — that is the entire premise. The one exception is multi-week courses, which sometimes assume you have done an introductory session first.
